What is Trager?
Milton Trager has got to the heart of it when he said:

… gives you a new experience of yourself
… is soft touch, that invigorates soothingly
… is joyful, peaceful BEING in ease.
And how does Trager work?
Trager®, named after the American physician and physio therapist Dr. Milton Trager, is a holistic, gentle and exploring perception and movement education for psychophysical integration or mind/body integration. It is an immersing into body perception, and into a simple and easy way of being. Trager allows an experiencing of your own ability to establish freer patterns of movement. This reduces tensions and enables more flexibility. A deep relaxation and more vitality become possible.
Through conscious feeling of the client and the gentle touch of the practitioner, the Trager method supports in discovering a new physical feeling. A fresh way of perception manifests and unconscious body-mind patterns can be reached.
This happens in teamwork and not through a passive attitude of the client.
Trager is no therapy and no repair to which one comes and expects to be fixed.
It is about getting a taste of how you can feel, what is possible and how can you remember and recall this wonderfully light and easy feeling in the daily routine.
A Trager session consists of 3 parts:
Arriving …
… in the here and now
Feeling myself.
Coming into a state of awareness and gentleness towards myself:
How is my mental state? What do I feel? Can I allow it?
Is there a way it could get lighter? How?
What is good for me? ...
Together we investigate in a playful way what is good for you personally, and what it is that you need here and now, to feel (even) better. Thereby the path leads to steadily-doing-less and steadily more ease and conscious being.
Allow myself to be touched
This second part takes place mostly on a massage table. It is also possibly to be tragered sittingly or standingly.
Here you can let yourself sink into the table. Relax. Release.
The practitioner touches the client in a soft and pleasant way. The quality of the touch enables the reciever, to sense him or herself better.
Body parts are being moved passivly, they are non-weight bearing and therefore it becomes easier or easy to relax. This way it is possible to move e.g. affected joints and ligaments in a completely painless way and regain more mobility. The unconsious body memory also lears how a free and easy movement can feel. Trust can arise.
Taking it home
Integration is the third part of Trager.
Take what you got and what you have learned.
The newly gained ease and freedom is to be integrated in the body consciousness. Independently of Trager sessions you can help yourself to implement a higher sense of well-being and range of motion.
Together wer find useful ways to implement the gained knowledge about more mobility, freedom and ease into everyday life. With this wellbeing and life quality are rising systematically.
